A small Hand carved , hand painted , Sri Lankan Raksha mask. Sri Lankans use a lot of colourful masks in festivals and cultural dances. They are painted in vibrant colors, with bulging eyes and protruding tongues depicting various demons. Raksha means “demon” and these masks are used to ward off evil spirits.
The Naga Raksha mask, also known as the Snake Demon is one of the most special characters in Sri Lanka mythology.
Keeping a Raksha mask at home is said to protect it from evil spirits.
The top left edge of the mask has chipped off but its not really noticeable. This is a great piece of indigenous art
