Solid teak Danish sideboard designed by Arne Hovmand Olsen for Mogens Kold
A sleek solid teak sideboard from 1964 .A stunning example of Danish modernist design . it Seems to float on very simple square legs a feat of engeneering. There are no obvious handles - just grooves along the top edge of the doors and side edge of the draws, that your finger can grip and pull comfortably - the drawers and cupboards open with ease. This is the longer version with a set of 3 draws and 2 seperate double door cupboards
The legs are apparently removable ( though i have not tried to remove them). It doesn’t have it’s makers badge -This is often the case as either the glue fixing the label in place dries out and the label gets lost , or it’s been sold by a retailer who didn’t like makers labels to be used . Many London retailers didn’t like to sell pieces that were labelled in the 1950’s and 1960’s so it’s not unusual for there to be no label in place . The craftmanship is undeniably Danish as is the iconic design attributed to Arne Hovmand Olsen for Mogens Kold . It is incredibly heavy which means it is solid wood - the doors and draw fronts are solid teak- the interior of the draws is light wood
It has 3 draws- the top draw is the shallowest and the desending draws get deeper. Along with 2 cupboard sections each with 2 doors open to reveal a large space with a middle shelf that is adjustable. Each section: cupboards and draws measures 76 cm. In total it is 240 cm long x 45 cm deep x 71 cm tall with a 25 cm space underneath from floor to bottom of unit.
In great condition with original oiled finish . Like all vintage pieces you must expect to see some minor signs of wear after some 60 plus years . Please see photos. A very superficial ring mark on the top that a light sand and oil will get rid of ( priced accordingly ) Viewings of the sideboard are welcome at our London (N10) . workshop. delivery cost is an estimate please supply your delivery address for esact delivery cost. This is a very heavy item and would require to strong people to deliver
