Decorative oval mirror with curved rattan beams and bamboo frame attributed to Franco Albini, made Italy circa 1950s. Ready to hang on the cane chain attached to the mirror and part of the over all design.
Franco Albini (17 October 1905 – 1 November 1977) was an Italian architect, designer and university instructor in design. Through his creations, he merged modern furniture design with traditional Italian artisanship and the new forms of modernism. In his creations, he used raw, inexpensive materials, exploited the very skilled Italian craftsmanship traditions. This also meant an elegant design based on a minimalist aesthetic.
His rattan work is my favourite. This Mirror is a perfect example of that work , in excellent condition, a rare unsung hero in the world of design, his popularity grows as these traditional crafts die away. The skill in bending these natural materials to create this scalloped effect is over looked by the simplicity of the materials.
The mirror measures 65 cm , 83 cm with the rattan chain
