This is a magnificent antique Berber Rug, also known as Sabra-Carpet / Kilim. The Sabra is woven from a vegetable fibre derived from Saharan Aloe Vera also known as "cactus silk". Cactus Silk is vegan. The appearance and touch is like silk . Handwoven by the berber women of the High Atlas Mountains the rug is dyed with natural plant colour and hand embroidered with traditional berber signs. This would look stunning hung above a head board or any where for that matter .
The surface of the textile has faded with exposure to light this is typical of natural plant dyes. The bottom is fringed .
