This Victorian Chinoiserie wall mirror has an elaborate decorative frame. Black with gold patterns painted over dating back as far as 1890. On the top panel the painted figures in relief have mostly chipped away.
Chinoiserie was a decorative style in Western art, furniture, and architecture, especially in the 18th century, characterised by the use of Chinese motifs and techniques.
This type of mirror is highly collectible, considered art in its own right, the quality of the painting is exquisite. The mirror itself has very slight foxing . This is a rare and delicate piece .A heirloom. A victorian looking glass.
The frame measures 51 cm tall x 39 cm wide. The actual mirror surface is 37.5 cm tall x 24.5 cm tall.
