Hand Embroidery crewel work Wool Mayan Aztec Peru wall hanging
This amazing piece of ethnic textile is very aztec / mayan in style but is actually from Peru. Made from pure wool - symbolic crewel work embroidered onto a pure wool, bright red woven cloth. This will look incredible hung on the wall. The characters are quite psychdelic. A large grinning sun, a menagerie of creatures including an octopus ! Peruvian Ladies in traditional dress dance with Peruvian morochuco (the cowboys of the plains of the Peruvian Andes, living mainly in the Region of Ayacucho. They raise cattle and tame horses for their livelihood ) The whole thing is just such a joyfull expression in wool. It is in excellent condition, with no colour fading on the front side, On the back of the textile there is a narrow line of sun fading, but as i said it is not seen from the front. This is a great piece of Ethnic outsider art at its finest. Measuring 173 cm across x 115 cm high this striking textile will cover a large wall surface.
